Meet Mia

Your friendly
sweets pusher.pleased to feed you.

I'm Mia. I've been baking since I was tall enough to reach the counter, and selling what I bake to my neighbors since 2014. This is the story of how a handful of family recipes turned into a full-time love letter.

Entrepreneur. Baker. Educator. Christopher Newport University alumna. And a mom, so I keep my cake kitchen nut-free so my son Jaydin can enjoy every treat right alongside everyone else. Everything I make carries the recipes, and the love, of the women who taught me.

How we got here

A slow rise.

1998

The recipe card.

My grandmother hands me a cinnamon roll recipe written on the back of a grocery list. No measurements for the spice. "You'll know." I do not know. I learn.

2009

Birthday requests turn into birthday orders.

I'm making pound cakes for every family birthday. Aunts start paying me for theirs. Cousins recommend me to their coworkers. I'm technically operating a business.

2014

MiA'S Bakery, officially.

I hang a sign in my kitchen. Cinnamon rolls on Saturdays, pound cakes by request. The first Saturday, I sell out before noon. I've never really stopped since.

2021

A nut-free kitchen commitment.

My son Jaydin should get to enjoy every treat right alongside everyone else, so I make the pound-cake side of the kitchen fully nut-free. Everyone deserves a slice of birthday.

2023

A counter at Anonymous Coffee.

Terrance from Anonymous Coffee asks if I'd bring rolls to the shop. We set up a little stand. The stand becomes permanent. Now you can find me next to the espresso machine most days.

Today

Same recipes. Same kitchen. Same love.

Pound cakes for every occasion. Cinnamon rolls, plain or with nuts and raisins. Custom cakes for anyone who asks nicely. A very small business I'm very proud of.

What I'm about

Three rules, mostly.

Scratch-made, always.

No mixes, no pre-made frostings, no shortcuts. If I put it on the counter, I made it from ingredients. Butter, eggs, flour, time.

Recipes with a history.

Most of what I sell is some version of something my grandmother or mother taught me. I change what needs changing and leave the rest alone.

Everyone at the table.

A nut-free kitchen for cakes. I built it so my son Jaydin could enjoy every treat right alongside everyone else. Because birthdays shouldn't have asterisks.

You aren't just getting amazing treats,
you're getting a little piece of home.
